This International Women’s Month, Woven proudly introduces the Ligaya Collection, a vibrant line of handcrafted pieces that put the fun in functional as it celebrates the creativity, playfulness and joy of girlhood. As a compassionate crafts company working with women weavers across the Philippines, Woven continues its mission to uplift and honor the artistry of Filipino weaving communities while creating modern and purposeful designs.
Inspired by the beauty of play and spontaneity, Ligaya—which means "joy" in Filipino—features whimsical colors and rich textures that bring a fresh, youthful energy to everyday essentials. Co-designed with Monica Ballada Abad, a recent graduate of De La Salle - College of St. Benilde, the collection is a testament to the power of collaboration between young designers and skilled artisans. “Being a girl is about growing into our own power, finding our voice, and shaping the world in ways both big and small,” she said. “Girlhood deserves to be honored because it is where empowerment begins.”
“We set out to create products we ourselves would love to use and carry around,” said CEO and Creative Director Trish Lim Francia. “True to our product philosophy, we wanted each piece to be both beautiful—proudly showcasing Filipino weaves—and useful for daily life.”

Beyond its playful aesthetic, the collection carries a deeper purpose. The fabrics were meticulously handwoven by women artisans from Abra, Basilan, and Zamboanga, while the laptop sleeves and gadget organizers were crafted by Woven’s partner community in Basey, Samar—a town renowned for its centuries-old tradition of banig weaving.
"I am inspired by my child, my family, and the members of my association," said Angeline Nillasca, president of the Tikog and Embroiderers Association in Basey. "It is because of them that production of banig continues and many women, including myself, are able to benefit and earn from weaving."
The Ligaya Collection launches on March 8, 2025, and will be available online. It will also be showcased as a pop-up at Conscious Commons on March 15, 2025, during a live podcast recording of Why She Works, which will feature two inspiring women in creative and entrepreneurial fields.
